Old Guy Hunting...

It just might be time for the Vice-President of the United States to put away his firearms and stop trying to project his first hunter persona.
About once every three months Dick Cheney shows up in a different region of the country and goes on one of those LBJ style hunting outings where various birds of a feather are pre-stocked in advance of his party and basically a shotgun intensive slaughter takes place. Whether or not the unfortunate fowl are collected and shipped back to the Blair House freezers is not known but the VP’s prowess with a shotgun is always noted.
Saturday, unfortunately Mr. Cheney hit more than the quail that were the bird of the month. Mr. Harry Whittington 78, an Austin attorney and longtime Republican Contributor was hit in the face, neck and chest by shotgun pellets from the VP’s gun when Cheney thought he was firing at a covey of quail that arose suddenly behind him. Mr. Whittington is reportedly doing fine in a Corpus Christi area hospital. Described as a friend of the VP Whittington evidently had come up unannounced behind the hunting party and may have been partially responsible for disturbing the quail which Cheney suddenly swung around 180 degrees to shoot at.
Ironically Whittington was once appointed by then Texas Governor George W. Bush to the Texas Funeral Commission.
Whether a cover up of the accident was intended is not known but the VP’s office did not report the incident until after 24 hours had passed. The public began to learn of the accident on the Corpus Christi Caller-Times website after one of their reporters noticed Whittington’s name on a hospital admittance report.
Cheney reportedly had been at Whittington's bedside Sunday afternoon.

I also saw today's interview done by Britt Hume. To be fair, the first thing he(Cheney) said was that he takes full responsibility for the accident..not the position which some have postulated that it was the victim's fault. Of course it took 70 hours to hear his version of events.
I'm quite certain he has apologized a number of times to Harry Whittington.

When I first heard this story I had hoped the democrats or the so called "liberal media" would not go after Cheney on this personal accident that could have happened to anyone. But now that I know the "facts" that on the day Harry was shot that Cheney did not follow him to the hospital but sat down "for a quiet dinner" with the others and then to bed. I found this quite odd, it made no sense. Surely his secret service people could have driven him "privately" and in a "private waiting room" to stay there until he found out if Harry was going to be okay? To "have a quiet dinner later" while his friend Harry is taken to the hospital and in the hospital, well what the heck is Cheney and this administrations problem? They seem to have this constant attitude and "pattern" of making such wrong choices, decisions and "moves" sadly lacking in common sense or "civility". The fact that they don't even seem to ever realize it is what bothers me the most. That says a lot about this adminsitration in general. They are so "inappropriate" in their ways of handling many situations, politically or personally..there is such a pattern of this type of arrogant "whats the big deal"? and then to go on Fox news in a private interview with Brit Hume (Fox,their talking heads and avid supporters, talk about "friendly fire" pardon the pun)but no press conference or any other network or reporters or press allowed?..that bothers me a lot! Makes them look like they are hiding something even if they are not. They do this all the time..surrounding themselves with "yes people" and keeping and staying away and not allowing anyone else "acces" to them!..Hello???

I know one thing if I accidently shot a friend of mine (course I don't even have a gun let alone believe in using one)I would not be "sitting down to a quiet dinner" after my friend is driven off to the hospital, whether I am a top head honcho or not! I wouldn't even have an appetite and would be following my friend to the hospital and staying there until I knew if he was going to be okay or not and also to be with him. Shame On Cheney! He is only proving to me once again of his constant arrogance "can do now wrong" mentality, and I just don't like his attitude in general he acts "mean" ..now I feel it more than ever..

Well, we all make mistakes. The point is we should never be too arrogant not to live or own up to them!
